In association with Ikoyi Lioness Ventures

Presenting to you, the legendary Nigerian superstar, King Sunny Adé & His African Beats (a cadre of 17 musicians and singers and a rotation of 5 dancers), returning to the United States for the first time since 2009!

King Sunny Adé, a beloved Nigerian musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and a pioneer of modern world music, is undisputedly the most popular artist in Nigeria and highly acclaimed as a world artist – appealing to music lovers across Africa and around the world. According to Gini Gorlinski, the author of The 100 Most Influential Musicians of All Time, King Sunny Adé has been classed as one of the most influential musicians of all time, with a trio of breakthrough recordings-including his 1982 album "Juju Music" released by Chris Blackwell's Island Records, which earned him his first Grammy Award nomination in the folk/ethnic music category and gained King Sunny Adé a world-wide following and labeling as "The African Bob Marley."

He has been performing to sold-out audiences around the world for more than 35 years. King Sunny Ade and his full band (with dancers) will tour over 30 cities across the U.S. and Canada – with the expectation of sold-out shows in every city. The artist has not toured North America since 2009, so his fans are eagerly awaiting his return.

¶ Featuring... Elikeh Afropop

“Based in Washington DC, Elikeh has a core group of musicians. Massama covers lead vocals and guitar, and his accompanists play guitar, bass, drums, two saxes, trumpet and percussion. On first impression, you might be tempted to label the sound afrobeat – the genre formulated by Fela Anikulapo Kuti in 1970′s Nigeria. That would be a mistake.”

Elikeh uses elements of Togolese rhythms as a foundation for exploration into American-influenced blues, funk and rock to produce captivating Afro-pop tunes that are as listenable as they are danceable. Although based in indigenous traditions, Elikeh’s music has no borders, exploring global themes and personal odysseys.
